Haruki's character is marked by a certain duality; on one side he is endowed with a certain wisdom, a certain understanding of the world. On the other side he can be unpredictable and highly reactive. Not easily influenced, Haruki is well balanced despite his characteristic duality. He can be extroverted when he opens up to the outside world and has a real desire to do good and be communicative, however he can also be introverted and retreat within his well ordered inner world. Haruki manages a whole system of values, he acts as the moralizer for those around him. Haruki reacts with precision and efficiency as he has a strong intuition.
Haruki is highly inclined to assess himself and others, he can therefore easily be competitive but always in an intelligent manner with a true desire to do better. Highly affected by setbacks, Haruki can show great anger on these occasions.
His will is very strong, too strong at times as it can turn into obsession. Haruki can become tyrannical and quickly see his desires as reality. Haruki needs to take a step back, to keep his distance at times in relation to situations, particularly as his desire to take account of himself pushes him into constant doubt. Far more comfortable with ideas than actual realization, Haruki adapts rapidly and easily as long as he manages the overall event. Haruki has a surprisingly strong resistance, he doesn't have to worry about overwork. Haruki has quite a complicated sociability as he lacks diplomacy at times, being a little too direct in his discussions and trying too hard to impose his ideals. With a dynamism that is close to excess, one might think that Haruki does too much. Very confident in himself, he gives the impression of having a mission to accomplish. Haruki has a passionate personality that is difficult to follow, he knows what he wants and will do everything necessary to achieve it.
- Biography:
Haruki's life has been a search for connection and love. The first to show it to him were his parents. They did everything they could for him and his older brother Hayato. Money was always tight but they had enough. However Haruki's mother had always been in less than perfect health and though she fought well to carry on she lost the fight when Haruki was ten years old. Grief struck the family but Haruki's father did as best he could. He had to work many more hours to make up for his wife's passing and so looking out for Haruki fell to Hayato. Hayato was everything to Haruki. His best friend and caring brother. Hayato showed signs of illness similar to their mother's when he was eighteen and Haruki was thirteen. The illness took him too at age twenty.
Haruki was now fifteen and alone with his father. The loss of two loved ones had hit both of them hard. Neither knew what to do except try and distract themselves with work or school. Eventually Haruki took up cooking as a hobby, initially because his father always worked so much he had to cook if he wanted to eat but later because he found it enjoyable. He found part time work around town with the skill but never made much of an effort to look to make a career out of it.
When he turned eighteen, Haruki set out to college which he had managed to afford based on need-based financial aid. He went to study business so he could one day run his own business and hopefully be able to not just support a family but have them live well and comfortably. Still he found it hard to really connect with the people around him due to the loss of his mother and brother. He didn't search out much opportunity for social interaction his first year at college. When he was nineteen a girl named Kasumi would change that.
Kasumi was a music major and Haruki met her when he heard a familiar song being played in a nearby classroom. Looking inside he saw Kasumi at the piano and was in awe for a moment. The two talked and initially that was it. But they soon started spending more time together in that room talking and getting to know each other. After about a year of steady dating, Haruki proposed to Kasumi and the two were married.
His wife had filled the holes left in his heart by the passing of his mother and brother. She was his life now. Everything he did he did for her. The two continued their studies and eventually graduated together when they were both twenty two. Haruki landed an okay job with a fairly big company and felt life was looking really good. Soon after he even received the news that his wife was pregnant and in time their daughter Yua would be born. Now Yua too was Haruki's world. She was so beautiful and precious to him.
But soon this happiness too would take a bitter turn. The illness that had claimed Haruki's mother and brother appeared to be showing up in little Yua and the diagnosis was bleak. There were treatments available but even with Haruki's income there was no way they could afford it. Kasumi had always seemed less strong after the pregnancy and now the news of her daughter's illness set in a crippling depression. Haruki knew his wife wouldn't last long if Yua passed. He began searching everywhere he could for help, for more money, a better job, whatever he could do.
Eventually he found out about the game of Duel Monsters and the job of entertainer. The money was good and if he could manage it on top of his current job he could afford treatments for his daughter. So he took the route of his father and worked long and hard, doing all he could for Yua and Kasumi. As he became a more established entertainer with this new power he eventually made it his full time profession.
Now Haruki is twenty five years old. His daughter is three and her health is failing fast. His wife is failing fast as hope for their daughter's recovery looks bleak. He is determined to save the two people closest to him, no matter what it takes. There isn't a thing he wouldn't do for them. Everyone and everything else comes after that.
